YOU NEED TO KNOW
Student Media Survey “Unrest in Charlotte”
Good afternoon HGCS families,
By now most of you have seen or heard about the news reports on the riots that took place in the University area last night and the early part of this morning. There have not been any reports on any protests or riots in the Hickory Grove area. The situation has been and will continue to be monitored by School Resource Officer Dan McCrae.
We have been informed that CMPD has placed officers on 12 hour shifts, which will have an impact on the officers that assist with directing traffic during morning and afternoon carlines. This means that starting this afternoon there may not be an officer at the positions to assist traffic in or out of the parking lots. It is possible that we will have officers here, but for officer safety reasons, Officer Dan does not want them exposed on the street until CMPD is taken off High Alert status.
As a result of this we are asking that you use caution when entering and exiting the parking lots during morning and afternoon carline. We understand the inconvenience this will pose, but we must keep the safety of our officers in mind.
We pray that this situation will come to a peaceful end soon to allow us to resume business as usual. We also ask that you pray for the CMPD officers and their families, other families affected by this, and the city of Charlotte as a whole, that peace is restored.
Should you have any questions or concerns, you can contact School Resource Officer Dan McCrae.
